What is Mount Monitor?
We are excited to announce that our studio has moved to a whole new software! It’s called Mount Monitor, and it’s a cutting edge way of managing invoices and streamlining client communications. If you have an active project with us, you will have access to a client portal. This client portal will allow you to directly communicate with our team, upload any reference pictures you would like us to use in the creation of your mount, and will allow for multiple ways to electronically pay your invoices.
This new software will also allow for more transparency as to where in the process your mount is. Through the client portal, you will receive updates when your animal moves forward to the next step in bringing it to life. There is also a question and answer page for many of the stages if you would like to learn more.

Patton's Taxidermy Studio is hiring a Part-Time to Full-Time Taxidermy Shaver, Hide Prepper and Tanner, for the upcoming hunting season. We are looking for an applicant to be a dedicated member of our team and play a vital role in turning freshly skinned hides into mounted finished works of art. If you’re passionate about precision work, safety, and craftsmanship, this is the perfect role to gain experience in the taxidermy world. This position is specifically for PREPARING hides for mounting, but may provide an opportunity to move to mounting specimens in the future. This role does not require experience, but it is preferred and is a highly physically demanding position.
Each cape/hide needs to be shaved on a fleshing wheel twice. The first shave is done prior to the tanning process to remove any excess tissue, and the second is done post-tanning to thin the skin as much as possible while avoiding cutting holes. The second shave is done to allow the hide to fit the forms properly, maximize detail in the mount and allow for longevity. In between these shaves is when the tanning process takes place. After tanning, the cape or hide needs to be detail prepped for the same reasons.
Responsibilities
Stay on task with minimal supervision after the training period
Notice and and correct any missed areas on the cape or hide from yourself or other preppers
Reliably be able to measure and calculate ratios of various chemicals
Keep detailed records of dates that each cape or hide is tanned and when they need to come out of the tan
Understand and comply with proper safety protocols
Clean the fleshing machine, tools and work area at the end of the shift or work day
Safely work with knives and medical grade scalpels
Skin Capes and Hides for mounting
Invert ears, and open eyelids, lips and nose
Detail flesh hides at the completion of the tanning process
Wash and dry hides as needed
Accurately tag and record hide numbers
Requirements
Must be 18 or older
Must have reliable transportation
Must be able to commit to at least 3 consistent workdays per week
Must rarely miss committed workdays
Must have the ability to reliably lift 75 pounds
Must be detail oriented and independent
Willing to learn
Desire to succeed and improve
Preferably have some experience skinning animals
